As residents in the western United States contend with a perilous heat wave, certain areas of California and Oregon are ablaze once more. On Sunday, thousands of residents were instructed to evacuate in Northern California's wine region and central Oregon as firefighting crews fought against the flames. According to Cal Fire, the Pickett Fire has scorched approximately 10 square miles of Napa County. Despite the dedication of over 1,230 firefighters and 10 helicopters, the fire is only 11% contained. In Oregon, the Flat Fire — which is raging in Deschutes and Jefferson counties — has expanded to 29 square miles. Although firefighters succeeded in establishing containment lines and managed to control some of the flames, their efforts faced significant challenges due to rugged terrain, low humidity, and temperatures reaching triple digits, officials reported.
