In the initial week following the White House's effective takeover of Washington, DC's police department and the deployment of thousands of federal agents and military personnel in the area, the city experienced a slight decrease in reported criminal activity alongside a significant increase in immigration-related arrests. Currently, President Donald Trump is pledging to implement similar initiatives in cities within blue states, despite opposition from Democratic leaders. Republican governors from six states have also declared their intention to send troops to the nation's capital to support the initiative, even though ten other cities in those states recorded higher rates of violent crime or homicide than DC did last year. In a statement, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker remarked that the president "is attempting to create a crisis, politicize those who serve in uniform, and continue to misuse his authority to divert attention from the hardships he is inflicting on working families."
