The administration of President Donald Trump has announced that it will evaluate applicants for U.S. work, study, and immigration visas based on their perceived "anti-Americanism," with any such determination being held against them. This has raised concerns regarding the potential impact on free speech.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a "policy alert, opens new tab" on Tuesday, indicating that it has provided immigration officers with updated guidance on how to apply discretion in situations where foreign applicants are found to "support or promote anti-American ideologies or activities," as well as those associated with "antisemitic terrorism."
