Tema Port has officially moved to a 24-hour operational model, as stated by Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

In an interview with a news network in Ghana, Mr. Sarpong mentioned that this initiative is in line with the government's flagship "24h+" program, which was introduced under President John Mahama, with the goal of enhancing industrialization, creating jobs, and increasing domestic tax revenue.

The GRA has collaborated with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and other significant stakeholders to realize this continuous port operation.

Mr. Sarpong emphasized the necessity of involving agencies such as the Standards Board, Food and Drugs Authority, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), pointing out that efforts have been made to incorporate these organizations into an automated customs platform to facilitate 24/7 service.

"At GRA, we consider ourselves a vital partner in the success of this initiative. Therefore, at the port, in collaboration with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and other stakeholders, we have already adopted the 24-hour economy. For instance, when goods are being imported, the presence of the Standards Board is essential. The Food and Drugs Authority must also be present, along with the EPA.

While not all these institutions were prepared for 24-hour operations, we have collaborated with them to ensure that they are positioned effectively. All of these agencies are being integrated and automated into our customs icon platform, allowing all government institutions to access port operations around the clock," he stated.
