White House officials have revealed the venue for President Trump’s important summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders are set to meet on Friday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, located on the northern edge of Anchorage, Alaska. Finding a suitable location was a significant challenge. Initially, several European sites were considered but ultimately dismissed due to the International Criminal Court's issuance of a war crimes warrant for Putin's arrest in 2023. Once Alaska was agreed upon, negotiators encountered another obstacle: the summer months mark the peak tourist season in the state, leading to limited availability. Moreover, the US base was the only location that met the necessary security requirements for the summit. Trump has already sought to manage expectations by describing the meeting as a 'feel-out' session.
